10 best Isle of Wight Holiday Accommodation With Swimming Pools - 2021
Here's our selection of 10 of the best places to stay on the Isle of Wight with a swimming pool. We've mostly just included indoor swimming pools because an outdoor pool is only really pleasant for about six days a year, even in the sun-drenched Isle of Wight (Ed: Sun drenched? Really?).
We've included some accommodation which has communal swimming pools such as caravan holiday parks, campsites and hotels as well as Isle of Wight self catering holiday homes and cottages with private swimming pools.
We've included some accommodation which has communal swimming pools such as caravan holiday parks, campsites and hotels as well as Isle of Wight self catering holiday homes and cottages with private swimming pools.
1. Kingates Farm, Whitwell (self catering cottages)
There are two cottages which share an indoor swimming pool at Kingates Farm. You can arrange 'private use by arrangement' so you won't have to keep bumping into the other guests in your trunks.
The smaller of the two cottages is called The Stables and it sleeps two people whilst the bigger one is called Farm Cottage and sleeps four. They're both pet friendly and get very strong reviews (just short of 5/5 when we checked). The location is an exceedingly sleepy spot a couple of miles outside of sleepy Niton. It's not right by the sea but you can get to Ventnor seafront in about 10 minutes by car. |
2. Whitecliff Bay Holiday Park, Bembridge (Camping, Glamping, Lodges & caravans)
Caravan holiday parks are a good bet for access to a swimming pool or two.
Whitecliff Bay Holiday Park is one of the bigger and better holiday parks on the Isle of Wight (4/5 on TripAdvisor). It's in a terrific position next to a sandy beach (you'll never guess what it's called) and it has various types of accommodation including el-cheapo camping and touring, mid-priced caravans/chalets and posher lodges with hot tubs. You can get a good discount on the Isle of Wight ferry if you get Whitecliff Bay to book it for you. You're unlikely to have the indoor swimming pool to yourself but it's a good option if you want access to a pool along with lots of other family friendly stuff. In the summer they put on things like outdoor cinema. There's also a good sized outdoor swimming pool. |
3. Shalfleet Manor and Shalfleet Manor Barn (self catering holiday homes)
Alright, so these two properties only have an outdoor swimming pool but it gets a bonus point for being in the grounds of a manor house.
The bigger - and more expensive - property is Shalfleet Manor which is more than 400 years old and sleeps up to 16 people. The smaller and less historic property is Shalfleet Manor Barn which sleeps six people. Shalfleet is in the West Wight. It's not quite by the coast but it's a quiet area with some excellent beaches within about 20 minutes. Freshwater Bay and Compton Bay are our favourites in the area but the beaches at Colwell and Totland are also popular. |
4. Lakeside Park Hotel & Spa, Wootton
If you want an Isle of Wight hotel with swimming pool then take a look at Lakeside Park Hotel & Spa which is one of the Isle of Wight's bigger and posher hotels. It isn't part of a big chain but it's modern and classy and has an indoor swimming pool.
They also offer spa treatments and it overlooks a lake at Wootton Bridge which is close to the car ferry from Portsmouth. The hotel has a 'brasserie' with a view which Mrs Guru tells me is posher than a restaurant. Customer reviews are currently at an impressive 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor. |
5. The Granary, Wroxall (self catering holiday home)
Yes, I know, this is another outdoor swimming pool but reviews for The Granary are terrific and it's decorated with the sort of trendy modern furniture which Mrs Guru likes.
The good news is that you have the pool to yourself. The bad news is that it's unheated so you'll relying on the Isle of Wight's, er, tropical climate. It sleeps up to four people in two bedrooms and is near to Wroxall in the South Wight. You can't walk to the beach from here - unless you fancy a hike - but it's only a short drive to Shanklin or Ventnor. |
6. Bembridge Coast Hotel
Bembridge Coast Hotel is a large hotel on the east side of the Isle of Wight. It's run by Warner Leisure and tends to be popular with more mature visitors. Probably best not to organise a stag party at this one.
The swimming pool is indoors and it is one of several other activities on offer. You can try your hand at shooting various things including cross bows, pistols and air rifles as well as tennis and bowls. As you may have guessed, it is in a decent location with a sea view. Warner Leisure will also book the Isle of Wight ferry for you at a significant discount. |
7. The Orchards Holiday Park, Newbridge (Caravans, camping, touring)
The Orchards Caravan Holiday Park has the luxury of indoor and outdoor swimming pools - and it scores 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor at the time of writing.
It's a much quieter and simpler holiday park than resorts such as Whitecliff Bay or Nodes Point. They've got lots of caravans to hire and it's also open to tourers and campers. Besides the swimming pool, there's a takeaway so you won't have to spend every night cooking in your caravan. They've also got table tennis, which is perfect for starting a family argument. The Orchards is another one in the West Wight, so it's a bit of a drive to Shanklin, Sandown and Ryde but it's convenient for Freshwater Bay, Compton Bay, Colwell and Totland. |
8. The Bay, Colwell (self catering Chalets)
The Bay in Colwell is another Isle of Wight holiday home site in the West Wight. They've got a shared indoor swimming pool as well as hot tubs with some of the accommodation.
A few of the newer and more expensive 'beach houses' have lovely sea views towards the beach at Colwell. You can walk to the beach in about 5 minutes. Colwell is best visited at low tide when there's a decent amount of sand. At high tide you'll find visitors huddled up against the sea wall as the water gets closer. Reviews average about 4/5 for this one. |
9. Arethusa Cottage Holiday Lodges (self catering cabins)
There are two log cabins which share a swimming pool in the grounds of Arethusa Cottage, just outside of Ryde.
One lodge is called Monktonmead and it sleeps six people whilst the other is Woodside which sleeps up to four including a sofa bed. Dogs are allowed in the smaller of the two properties. The cabins are in the grounds of an historic cottage which was the home of an Isle of Wight war hero. It's not had loads of reviews yet, but those that we've found are very positive. |
10. Nodes Point Holiday Park (caravans and lodges)
Nodes Point is one of four holiday parks owned by Parkdean Resorts on the Isle of Wight. They've all got swimming pools of some variety but Nodes Point is in the best location (in my opinion). It also tends to score slightly higher with customers than the other three (Landguard, Lower Hyde and Thorness Bay).
It is only a couple of minutes walk to St Helen's Beach which is a lovely spot at low tide on a summers' evening. During the warmer months you can ride ponies along the beach and flick your hair back like you're in a perfume advert. The pool has slides and the holiday park has places to eat and kids' entertainment. You can choose from various grades of accommodation, including caravans and lodges. Nodes Point scores 4/5 from most reviewers. |
