Priory Bay Hotel Update 2024 - Gallery

We wrote a post last year about the Priory Bay Hotel, which overlooks one of our favourite Isle of Wight beaches. You might like to read that post, which also includes lots of nostalgic comments from people who fondly remember happy summers spent wandering down to the sandy beach.

We were contacted by Ian, who has been staying at one of the properties within the grounds of the hotel which are still available to hire.

He kindly sent through some photos of how the hotel is currently looking.

Firstly thank you for you very high quality images.
Secondly it’s a absolute bloody travesty that , this wonderful building and land has been treated like this , I am fuming , I’ve just seen these images.

Hello. If you want to be even more irrate, go to you tube channel VACANTHAVEN and search for their recent video of Abandoned English hotel and you will be fuming over the inside. I want to cry!!! Shame on the owners!!!!!

My wife (Lin) and I moved to the Island at the beginning of 2000
Lin was starting a new job teaching at Carisbrooke High School, and I would be working for Royal Mail, the job wasn't to start until October so I needed something until then.
Living in St Helens, Priory Bay Hotel was nearby so I contacted them to see if they had any work for the summer.
They did, so I joined the housekeeping Dept, I had been brought up right, so making beds or cleaning toilets was not a problem.
The hotel was quite a nice place. The main bedrooms and public areas had character. When I joined in 2000 money was being spent refurbishing some of the bedrooms, they made a smashing job in the attic turning the space into a very stylish ensuite bedroom.
The staff seemed a fairly happy bunch, the owner Andrew Palmer was always friendly, though I expect he could show who's boss when he had to.
Time moves on and things change, and new ownership should be a sign for the good, however it looks like things have stalled.
Putting aside for the moment any inappropriate plans for the estate, my concern is the house.
I recently watched a YouTube video taken by peu who investigated abandoned properties.
It was shocking, The hotel been vandalised, water is getting in and rot is everywhere.
Isn't the hotel grade two listed? The owners have a legal responsibility to maintain the fabric of the building.
The hotel is in danger, very sad.

I am totally heart broken. We sailed to Bembridge every weekend and my two boys grew up playing in this hotel. for over 10 years we visited. The owners at the time let the boys use the pool and we have my most cherished times here. This shouldn't be allowed to happen. This place was magical, beautiful and the most special place. I won't be able to show my boys this.

Wow, visited this hotel on a school trip 29 years ago! I felt like looking it up to see what it's like now and am absolutely shocked! It was beautiful.
