Is this the cheapest way to visit the Isle of Wight in August 2026?

We've gone through a lot of this in absurd levels of detail in previous blog posts, but here's the gist of it.

This 20% off Red Funnel deal will be the best option for a lot of people - but not everyone. The full list of current deals can be found on our ferry discounts page, but some of the headliners include:​

• Red Funnel is also running a £60 day return offer at the moment, for a car and passengers. We've also found that the same offer will let you book overnight stays for £120, as long as you don't mind travelling early or late in the day. • Red Funnel also do something called the Big Book of Savings, which is sent by post to Isle of Wight residents. It currently has a 25% off code, but it can only be used once and it expires before our offer. 
  
  
• We've also got an exclusive discount code with Wightlink that is valid until March 2027. The code is GURU10 and you need to book via this page. This one can't be used on some bank holidays.

• Semi-regular foot passengers should get the calculator out and look at Wightlink's Multilink foot passenger deal, which may well save you money. A couple who visits the Isle of Wight twice a year may well find that it's the best deal available for them. There are other discounts available to foot passengers including railcard deals and so on. Is Wightlink cheaper?

Could you save more money with Wightlink?

You may also be wondering if Wightlink will be cheaper than Red Funnel, even with the 20% off deal.

The dull answer is...it depends.

There are so many factors at play with Isle of Wight ferry prices, as both companies operate their car ferries like airlines. Both run special offers, discount codes and loyalty deals all the time - so it's not a simple calculation. 

There are also other things that vary between the companies. For example, Red Funnel and Wightlink have different rules around vehicle sizes. Red Funnel give you an extra 50cm within their standard size, which can be useful if you're bringing bicycles on a towbar. Meanwhile, Wightlink give you can extra 24cm height within its standard size, which is useful if you have a roofbox.

Wightlink have also recently introduced an Emissions Trading Scheme fee of £3 for a return journey with a car - but only on its Fishbourne to Portsmouth crossing.

The short answer is that you should really check prices with both companies rather than assuming one will always be cheaper.
